A gem carefully preserved for posterity. My husband and I got a guided tour with lots of history and fascinating details, then we could explore the old mill and surrounding areas on our own. And in addition there was a pile of beautifully crafted cast iron - uhm...- thingies that I rummaged through and bought a whole pile to use as decorations.

Was there with my little brother (18y) and can highly recommend the museum !!! There was an extremely interesting film about the inventiveness of the Zella Mehlisers, really impressive! You can watch the waterwheel live and its power transmission to the machines. In addition, as outsiders, we got an insight into the blacksmith's trade and learned the difference between drop and free forging. There are also blacksmithing courses where you can forge your own knife.

A very nice museum. A very nice museum member gave us a lot of additional background history. Well worth a visit, a history museum set up with a lot of expertise and love. The exhibition on the Thuringian costumes is particularly remarkable.
