This place is fantastic! It's incredibly beautiful and I went on a cold, fall day and was the only person there. I got a "private" tour since there wasn't anyone else. It was in German, but I understood most of it. The guide loaned me an English text to help.

A very, very beautiful small city. I came here for the Order of Teutonic Knights, but I have gained more than I had expected. The Teutonic Palace has many luxurious baroque rooms, and the Palace Church is the most splendid Teutonic church that I have seen. The staff here are very helpful. Inside the Palace, there is also the cultural centre of East Prussia! I have been interested in the history of East Prussia for a long time, but now I do not have to travel all the way to Königsberg, for here they have a two-floor exhibition for the history and culture. This year they have a special temporary exhibition called “Wolf’s Children”, which is about the interviews of the East-Prussian children who had survived in 1945. It was a very sad history, but no one wants East Prussia to be forgotten. When I took a walk in this small city, I also discovered many historical buildings related to the Teutonic Knights, especially the other splendid Teutonic church called St George. The city gate was worth a visit too. While it dwarfs the colourful houses around it, it is the most beautiful city gate I have seen so far.
