Great piece of historical architecture in the historical town of Soest

The city of Soest was surronded by 10 gates in the past and Osthofentor Gate is the only surving one out of them. In the past, these gates played crucial role in the defence of the city. It is an example of beautiful architecture and was built during year 1523 - 1526. It's one of the important tourist attractions in Soest from both aesthetic and historical point of view.

Very nice authentic preserved city gate with a detailed facade. Must be viewed from the opposite side of the street.

The gate is slightly lost in the area. Soest was a significant city, but somehow it vanished into insignificance. And the gate is like a symbol of the whole. The cityscape is quite pretty and the art treasures give an idea of ​​what was going on in the Middle Ages, but you can see the city, unfortunately, very much the scars of war. However, Soest is still doing pretty well compared to many other cities hit by the war.
