Staff were terrific. Breakfast was great. Very close to town. Good size rooms.
The price is a little bit high, but the breakfast included is very nice
This place used to be very good unfortunately there's no maintenance at all, there's mold everywhere, beds are old, rats at night and the owner knows about it.
Fully recommend to stay at this beautiful and locally-run, authentic Hostal! I have had a more than amazing stay here, twice and each time stayed for several days. Norma and Nelson, the owners, are extremely helpful and kind people. They know everyone in and around Puyo and helped me out with the most unusual needs and questions (I was preparing myself resp. reviewing a month-long stay in the rainforest). They'd call family members to help me get any information I needed and when I was sick, provided me with medication, tea and let me cook my own food in the kitchen which is normally not open for client use. They have a very conscious approach to their profession and are keen to run the Hostal as environmentally friendly as possible. Breakfast includes several choices and the usual bread and eggs (in all kinds of variations) might be replaced by fried yucca or maduro depending on the day's offerings, and come accompanied by fruits or yogurt, juice and coffee/tea. Food is as organic and clean as it gets! All the staff is very friendly. Rooms are clean and water gets wonderfully hot after a minute of waiting. It's about 4 mins walking to the center which I found to be a perfect location. For lunchtime or dinner, head up to the vegetarian restaurant a few meters further up the road, it doesn't look like much but has yummy, clean, healthy and cheap local food and a very friendly lady running it too!
The only minor imperfection of the Hostal Las Palmas might be the traffic on the road next to it which gets a bit noisy at times. But seriously I didn't consciously hear it anymore after a day. The homeliness of the place completely makes up for it and once you've stretched out in one of the hammocks in the small interior yard and are watching tropical birds in the lush green plants you'll be serene. Nelson and Norma are currently constructing a second leg of the Hostal in cabaña-style in the jungle on the doorstep of Puyo, very quiet and completely organic too - watch out for this to open soon!
Good service, nice rooms and not expensive, close to all interest points of Puyo City.
