Cascada El Rocío Machay

Beautiful natural waterfall

We paid one US dollar (per adult) to enter the trail and it took us about 20 minutes (we were walking fairly slowly since we have three children with us) to get to a beautiful waterfall. The trail is fairly easy with some very steep metal staircases, which can be slippery when wet. There are also some paved steps and trails mixed with a little dirt path. You can hear the sound of the waterfall as you follow the path and before long, you will be greeted with the refreshing mist from the waterfall. There is a large platform facing the waterfall for good photo & selfie opportunities. And if the sun is shining, a rainbow will be visible. Take a dip in the cool waters of the Machay river by going to the base of the waterfall. There is also a hanging bridge beside the waterfall that lead you onto another trail. It will bring you further into the forest along the river. All in all, it is a beautiful place to visit and it's close to the city center of Banos.

There's a 15-20 minutes walk down and it's definitely worth to go. You can swim in the pools at the bottom of the waterfall. Also there's another path to leave the place, so you don't have to go back the same way. If you're around and if you're a nature lover, don't hesitate to spend at least half a day here.
