Very nice service, considerate and lively. Food was excellent, btw it is very hard to find vegetarian Ceviche. This one was delicious!
Worst vegetarian menu I have tried in my life. Leftovers of salad and boiled potato in a wedding MENU.
This is one on my favorite place, they have the best costumer services! They are so nice! The food its good!! ❤😊👌💛💕💕💕 if you want to feel like traditional things to quito!!! You should love it 👏👏👏👏
Being on vacation in Ecuador for latest 2 weeks, we planned to spend 2020 New Year Eve in Quito and were recommended Plaza Grande Hotel - a (supposedly) 5-star hotel in historical center on Quito. We had a Plaza View Suite booked for 2 nights, which they have only 3 of and which cost just a bit less than USD 500 per night at this time. "Plaza View Suites offer a magical experience" according to their site. Magical experience it was indeed.
Having some past experience with historical properties in town centers, before making a final confirmation, I inquired through an agency organizing our Ecuador holidays about possible noise levels in the rooms. The rooms are absolutely soundproof, the hotel assured the agency. It also says "rooms soundproof" on hotel's ad on Tripadvisor. Of course, it was too late, but when we arrived to Plaza Grande on the 30th of December, I asked the same question when checking-in. "Absolutely no noise" the receptionist named Anna-Maria answered.
There was indeed absolutely no noise in the corridor, while we were walking to the room accompanied by a bellboy. But when he opened the door of our "magical experience suite" we were hit by a cacophony of noise from the square: music, laughter, couple of people shouting into microphones on different sides on the plaza. You could ever hear what people on the street below were talking about. The Suite turned-out to be a corner room and it had 5 windows going around, including the bathroom - each of these windows an old loose-fitted double-glass, which was passing the noise as though they didn't exist. Of course, I went down to reception right away and told Anna-Maria about the issue. We are full today, she shrugged, so nothing really she can do.
After spending another half hour in the room, both my wife and I understood that we will never be able to rest in this "magic Suite" - neither during the day, nor during the night and our next 2 days will be completely ruined. Being in the room was like sitting in the middle of the square with pre-New Year festivities going on. Thus I called a director of our tour agency, told him about the issue and told him that we need to move elsewhere. He asked me to wait, while he will talk to Plaza Grande, except there were no solutions found, so I booked online a room in Marriott myself. After 2 hours of staying in Plaza Grande, we were finally picked-up by the agency and driven to Marriott. As it turned-out later, Plaza Grande is a sister-property of Swissôtel Quito and there were rooms avaialble for our dates there. Except nobody at Plaza Grande bothered to offer us or our tour agency a simple solution of moving us over to Swissôtel.
Afterwards a director of our tour agency contacted Juan Utreras - a GM of Plaza Grande requesting to make a refund of the money. Since it was not us, the clients, who didn't show-up or changed their minds and decided to cancel in the last moment. It were the facilities of the hotel that didn't correspond to a 5-star hotel level and didn't correspond to what is advertised and was promised to us in particular in respect to room noise level. "It is not in the policy of the hotel to refund the money" - Sr. Utreras answered. Most likely it is in the policy of Plaza Grande and Sr. Utreras in person to give false advertisements and sell rooms that are not corresponding to any star hotel category for nearly USD 500 per night.
And the simple fact is that this issue is very easy to fix (of course, not when you have clients in the room already). The building itself is a colonial Spanish one with nearly fortress-like walls. You just need to install proper windows - something which isn't that difficult and even not very expensive. But this requires some kind of management and care about the guests - something that isn't present in Plaza Grande.
What a perfect hotel to start my holiday! I spent a lot of time deciding on where to stay. So happy I chose hotel plaza grande. Perfect location and so well appointed! Quiet at night in square so good night sleep. When arriving, Independence square is closed off to cars so you need to alert staff with a brief walk to hotel. The staff is very attentive. Food is very good. Do not miss their fresh juices at breakfast. Blackberry/guayaba mix is the best. Thank you fabulous hotel!
