UPDATE - AWFUL. STAY AWAY!! GO ELSEWHERE!!! -my mother had made a reservation for the previous weekend, for 5 adults and 2 children. Because of unexpected circumstances we had to change the reservation for this past weekend (one week later). Management already had a deposit so they said they had no problem changing the date of the reservation -we arrived around 6:15 pm. We were approached by a lady who works there who was kind of nervous to see us. When we entered the house, we found out that they only had 2 rooms with 2 queen size beds. We had a reservation for 7 people. They told us they were going to “help us out” by providing 1 extra twin bed in each room. Fine. But that left one child without a bed. They told us that’s all they could do. They tried telling many excuses: they said our reservation was only for 6 people (lie), they tried to tell us that we didn’t re-confirm we were coming (who does that when you already had a confirmation AND even paid a deposit!?!?!), they tried to tell us many things, even that the son of the owner was visiting and that they had taking one of the rooms that was intended for us (a family room with 3 beds) and they couldn’t kick them out. We were LIVID. After much arguing they said that the owner also has another hotel downtown Cayambe (about 40 minutes away, down the mountain, through a dark and dangerous road to go at night time) and that they could offer a space for 2 people. We told them that was unacceptable. Either we all stayed or we all left. We wanted to take our deposit back and head back to Quito. It was around 7:30 pm when the owner’s spouse showed up, introduced herself and said she could give us “her” room (the family room with the 3 beds) and “she could help us with an additional bed”. It was either that or go elsewhere. Since we thought the beds that were originally in the room were good for 6 people (2 in each bed) we agreed to stay as the extra bed would fit the extra person. Worst decision ever. The room they gave us had a queen bed, a full bed and a twin bed. They added another twin bed and called a day. I had to squeeze is a twin bed with my son and wasn’t able to sleep at all. They didn’t provide space heaters and only gave us 5 towels. After asking for extra towels, they gave us two more towels. - our room had poop inside the toilet - no warm water at all. - floors were filthy everywhere including our room. It was disgusting. -fireplace in main living room had not been fixed since last year so they couldn’t make it go this time. - breakfast was HORRIBLE. Worst coffee ever. They have us a tiny cup (like a espresso cup) of milk for our entire table and when we asked for more they said they didn’t have more milk. The breakfast meal consisted of scrambled eggs (3 people in our party don’t care for scrambled eggs... but eggs made any other way were not an option), 4 small pieces of “queso de mesa” or something like a salted tender cheese, 3 small pieces of ham, fresh juice and 3 slices of an awful tasting commercially bagged bread. The only item worth enjoying was the juice. The rest was a joke. I have to explain they the area where the hotel is located is rich in wonderland dairy products. A nice bowl of “Nata” or a dish with butter is not only expected but easy to obtain. Biscochos de Cayambe are wonderful biscotti like small bread that are also typical of this region. At this “hostel” we got none of these. Very sad that management cannot even offer some extra milk for the coffee. floor in the entire living room area was damaged. Wood was breaking upwards, which made my husband trip a couple of times and my two sons fall. dog poop was sitting in the entrance of the house. I guess no body cared to clean up; trash was piling up in the downstairs bathroom (by main living room). No more room to place trash but again, no one cared. towel in the social bathroom (by main living room) was filthy. My guess is that they haven’t changed it in a few days... DISGUSTING!

Love the panoramic views of Cayambe the town and the volcano. Lots of activities available from the hotel: horseback riding, hiking, tours, biking and you get your own personal chef cooking your meals in the beautiful kitchen/restaurant. We are from Minnesota and hope to come back again!

An amazing view of Cayambe, and excellent food. The lasagna was excellent.
