Casa Magnolia

Quiet, comfortable, perfect location.

This place was awesome. We highly recommend it. The owner is so sweet and accommodating and the rooms are absolutely beautiful. Our favorite part was the lawns and gardens where you can just go relax in a hammock or lawn chair and read a book. It's really peaceful there.

Beautiful place, super nice and friendly host! It was very convenient to attend the conference in the university nearby from here. Really nice breakfast made my day; learnt about bunch of new fruits. Birdwatching from the balcony was another plus point for me.

We are a group of 10 travelling to Ecuador in July,2018. Since we were a big group, we chose to make a deposit to secure the rooms with 6 months in advance. Five months ago, our friends in Ecuador visited Casa Magnolia to ensure we were staying in a reputable place. We found out that Casa Magnolia was located in a questionable area of Cumbaya, It is located in a low- income neighborhood with potential security issues. As we are travelling with kids we decided to cancel our reservation as we couldn't take any risks. I called Carola Knaulen - the owner - and explained the situation. She was unpleasant and rude. It was obvious that she was upset with our cancellation. I requested the refund of the deposit as it is clearly posted in their webpage that there are NO CANCELLATION FEES. However, she responded she will require her lawyer's advice as she was not aware of the Ecuadorian laws. I felt it was a way of intimidating us, as we had no mechanism to demand our money back if she did not act in good faith. Days later, I received an email from her stating that she WAS NOT reimbursing the deposit t without any explanation. I am infuriated on how Ms Knaulen took advantage of us and perhaps other tourists that use online reservations. My intention is to share my experience and hopefully avoid someone else getting ripped-off as we did. If you have any questions or want additional information, I will be happy to provide you.
