An enchanting lone lighthouse on an enchanting little island. Whenever possible, visit Mohn and see the lighthouse there. The island is small but incredibly diverse - from rocky to sandy beaches, from dry dune to pine and moist forest. Very interesting visit!

Viinistu küla, Mohni, Kuusalu, Harjumaa 59.683956, 25.795399 59 ° 41 '2.24 ", 25 ° 47' 43.44 The lighthouse is located on a small island Mohni not far from Loksa. The island is 2.5 km long. in width not more than 300 meters. The island has a forest, sand dunes, heather thickets, a well, a lighthouse and a host. the buildings. Wonderful place to stay. To the mainland 5 km. MOKHNI, lighthouse, Mohni Island, or Ekholm (Ekholm): 1806, height above ground level 27 m, height above sea level 33 m. The origin of the name of the island is associated with the German word Mohn (Estonian - moon, genitive mooni), which means " poppy". Formerly, the island was known as Ekholm, Ekholm, probably from Swedish words: ek - “oak” (perhaps eka - “canoe, boat” - because of the shape of the island) and holme - “a small island”. In 1793, the island was also called “Ekholm, or Ugolny,” that is, it was believed that its name was formed from the German words Eck, “angle, peak,” and No1sh, “island.” The decision to establish a lighthouse was made in 1805. At the beginning there was a wooden octagonal tower 15.5 meters high from the base. After one of the reconstructions, the tower became almost 6 m higher. The height of the constant light of ordinary color of 16 lamps was now 26 m, which provided a visible distance of 10 miles. However, over time, the wooden tower collapsed, and in 1852 a new stone brick tower was built in its place. Now it was a 24 m high conical red tower above the base. In subsequent years, the lighthouse was repaired several times, in particular, in 1867, the outer brick walls were painted with feather-wood for 2 times. In 1871, the lighthouse was re-illuminated: a Fresnel rotating apparatus was installed on it 2 digits. The lighthouse acquired a white fire with glimpses after 30 seconds. In 1872 it was necessary to veneer the outer walls with a new brick, and also paint them with oil paint. At the same time, the stone guard house was overhauled. In 1880, in connection with the transition to kerosene-heating lighting, a stone warehouse was built for petroleum storage near the tower. Since then, the tower has been redecorated several times. To date, the appearance of the lighthouse has not changed.
