Abune Yemanta Church

Great hike and then scramble up some fairly steep pitches to get to this church built into a cave way up on a cliffside. Hard to believe that people for generations have made this risky journey to worship. The church inside is nice and the priest (after a donation) will show you some of the ancient religious texts. No recommended you're physically unstable or have a significant fear of heights.

It is located at the top of a cliff in one of the wildest parts of Tigray. It is a unique and unforgettable place, remote and beautiful, far from the hustle and bustle of the cities. The cliff where Damo is located is a real life Shangri-la. Upon arrival, we have panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and complete seclusion and peace for the hundred or so monks and deacons who live there.

This is the most dangers but rewarding experience ever in my life. The guides look after you every step of the way. Face your fears, challenge yourself, take it slowly and love it !

I wasn't able to make it up. The scouts were great and encouraging but without any rope, the fear got the best of me after 20 ft up. I still have no clue how people do it. Bravo
