We are fortunate in Valenciennes to have a quality media library, offering many services and activities, and in an exceptional historical setting.
Nice library for its exterior. A large choice of books. But it has lost a bit of its charm with its garishly colored furnishings ... where the young people are wallowing. It no longer looks like a library but a place for waiting or napping for young people. Too bad.

Located rue Ferrand, in the historic city center, between the conservatory and the Saint Nicolas auditorium, this media library is a building from the eighteenth century. It is made of bricks with white stones. On a stone is engraved the name of Valentin Contrat, native of Valenciennes and one of the precursors of the French academy. This media library is dedicated to Simone Veil who was also a member of the Academy. In this room, you can access the Internet, you can consult and borrow books. Few people know that Valenciennes is the owner of the first manuscript in the French language: the cantilene of Sainte Eulalie.
