My cat underwent radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism at this clinic. The treatment was administered without any diagnostic tests beyond the bloodwork done by my regular vet. It failed.
HisT4 levels, instead of lowering, skyrocketed to almost double what they had been pre-treatment. A scintillography, which would have diagnosed size & type of tumor (and is, as I learned later, normally used BEFORE treatment to determine the appropriate I131 dose) was not included in the procedure and was not mentioned, until two months later, when the treatment was proven to have been a complete failure. It was then proposed (at additional cost) as a preamble to a re-treatment (which would also be billed again at 900 euros, "or higher" depending on the I131 dose required).
I was never allowed to see the area in which animals were kept and my cat was sent home in an abject state of stress and filth after the obligatory 15 day quarantine. It is impossible to know in what conditions the animals are kept because the clinic makes a point of denying access and visibility. During my cat's quarantine, I could call for news (only permitted on weekdays) and while the staff was nice, more than once I was told things like "she's fine" (even though my cat is actually male) or "he's sleeping in his pink basket" (my cat did not have a basket, and the blanket I left for him was gray) - leaving me to wonder: are they even looking at my cat? I began to have doubts about animal identification and the staff's attention to detail.
After the treatment failure, and worsening of my cat's condition, I politely (without any accusation) asked the doctor if they could review the procedures and daily radiation readings for my cat while he was in quarantine to see if there had been any irregularities that could shed light on the poor outcome. Her response was shocking: "I will stop you right there. There is nothing to review. It is IMPOSSIBLE that we made any errors!". First, this attitude is disrespectful to my valid concerns. Second, I work for a hospital and one of the guiding principles in healthcare is that errors ARE possible. Reviews are a standard procedure to learn, identify (or rule out) mistakes and improve future results. Maybe nothing went wrong and it was all just bad luck. But being completely resistant to acknowledging even the POSSIBILITY of an error (human or technical) is un-scientific and suspiciously defensive. In conclusion: the lack of diagnostic tests before setting the radiation dosage, the obscure quarantine conditions, the mistakes in identifying animals while in their care and the vet's resistance to review leave me weary of entrusting this clinic again.
Excellent staff and facilities. I have 100 percent confidence in their veterinarians
Excellent facilities and staff
If this clinic were dealing with humans it would have been closed long ago. Sure, they're great with animals, but some (like my dog) do tests under general anesthesia for NOTHING because they don't want to report the results. It is not for lack of having called to the limit of supplication to always hear that I will be called back. Visit in March, it is November. SHAME ON YOU.
GO YOUR WAY
No follow-up of the animal, no report or anything after more than 1000 € of examinations! Dozens of phone calls, emails and not even mail! They spend their days cashing in but not working on their files ... I still don't know why my cat was paralyzed. I also think they charged me for things that were not useful .. in short, be very careful if you go!
