Ticket office shut and tickets are only available on the west bound platform. No vending machine and the train I got on was well.old.
Comparatively well-used station, which is a blend of old and new buildings – shame the café in the swanky structure on the south (westbound) platform is now defunct. Small car park and bus stop on that side. Half-hourly trains to Blackburn and hourly services to Leeds for most of the day with less frequent services to Manchester Victoria on Saturdays (in which respect there is considerable room for improvement). All trains run to/from Southport. Unstaffed with ticket machines and small waiting shelters on both platforms.
Burscough bridge railway station sits on the line running towards Manchester in one direction, and towards Southport in the other.
This railway station has two platforms and these platforms do have covered sheltered waiting areas.
What was nice to see (certainly in one of the covered sheltered waiting areas), was the ability to buy a ticket using an automatic machine, and then at the same time being able to look at the digital departure board that was also located right inside the shelter itself, which must be a bonus for any passenger waiting for the train.
For anyone wanting to leave a bicycle here, there are two types of bicycle rack - ones that are free (providing access for about 8 bicycles), and then there is a collection of about 8 or 9 locked bicycle cupboards for people who want more protection and security for their bicycles.
The car park is a fair size, and can handle approximately 30 vehicles, including a couple of spaces for disabled drivers. I wasn't aware of any security cameras overlooking the car park.
Certainly when I was there, there was no obvious signs of any other security cameras within the vicinity of the platforms.
Both platforms do have digital departure boards, as well as voice announcements for arriving trains.
This railway station also has what is known as the "burscough interchange", which includes a cafe as well.
Access to burscough bridge railway station is gained either by walking straight from the car park onto the platforms, or pedestrians can also gain access to the railway station by walking from the nearby road bridge, and then walking down some steps directly onto the platforms.
Tremendous
