I cannot praise the Hersham Surgery more highly. I have just lost my mother and feel compelled to share my experiences of the practice. The staff were excellent during the years she was registered with them, and in her final months the doctors made regular home visits. The Doctors are all amazing, but of course, we all have a favourite... They all treated her with such respect and compassion. I have spent many occasions in the waiting room with my mum and have a few observations I hope are helpful:- 1. Please be patient when you phone. The receptionists have to call up numerous screens on their computers; flick between screens and input data whilst you are talking to them. If they go quiet it is because they are having to concentrate on multiple activities at once. They aren’t being rude or unhelpful. 2. I have been shocked on numerous occasions by the way the general public speak to the staff members; unprovoked and unnecessary. I have witnessed receptionists trying to weed out the right information to assist the member of public, when it was the member of public who was in the wrong. No apology; just downright rude. 3. The Doctors are just fantastic. I cannot thank them enough. Thank you all, My mum’s family are all so appreciative.

I have tried for 4 weeks to get an appointment to repeat my chronic medication. I have finally managed to get one - in just over 2 weeks from now. I’m out of chronic medication and have been refused a repeat unless I book an emergency appointment with a doctor to get one. This was a surprise as I was previously told that as soon as I have the appointment I would be issued a script to cover me until the date of the appointment. I cant get to an emergency appointment tomorrow as I’m leaving the country today to care for my mother who has lung cancer. I’ll be back in 2 weeks. I was told that there was nothing that could be done. Why was I fobbed off for 4 weeks and then told at the last minute that I need an emergency appointment to get my chronic medication? So now I will spend 2 weeks without my chronic medication because the receptionist doesn’t believe it’s that important. I can’t comment on the doctors as I can’t get near one, but the receptionists are not very helpful.

I am sure that negative reviews are the result of the rudeness that the receptionists receive. I sometimes arrive early as rely on public transport...and what I overhear is generally eye-opening. My own experience from many years attending this surgery ..is that the receptionists try their best within the parameters of the booking system and the Doctors are caring and professional.

Over the years I avoid going to drs if I can possibly help it ! On the occasions I’ve been really ill and had no choice these dr’s are brilliant in particular Dr Desour - really cares about patient outcomes ... I feel very lucky to be registered with this practice
