This is a magnificent fortress well worth a visit, but there are a lot of steps to climb. The views from the top are breathtaking, don't forget your binoculars. There are a series of steps suspended from one mount to another, only for the brave , but the views.... You are on top of the world. You also get a sneaky view of Dumbarton football ground.

Although this photo was take from across the River Clyde, Dumbarton Rock and Castle is certainly worth the visit. Be aware though that the climb to the top can be strenuous but the view from there will be your reward..

The castle is closed at the moment. We parked up and had a wander around, it's very beautiful. Its situated right on the waters edge and must've been quite a commanding sight. The area around the castle is great for a walk, flat and easily accessible

Stunning scenery and informative, interesting factoids on display in the grounds at foot of rock. Covid meant castle was closed to public but a great beauty spot nonetheless.
