Stunning place to visit. Wonderfully views.

A fantastic historical site, but there is little more than earthworks left to look at today. The land is privately owned and technically not open to the public. The original motte and bailey  was built at the order of Roger De Montgomery, Earl of Shrewsbury sometime between 1071 and 1074, after the Norman invasion of 1066 as one of the first fortifications in Wales. Several different families held the castle until 1215, when the fortress was destroyed by Prince Llywelyn ap Iorwerth. The motte and bailey was subsequently refortified as an outpost for the new stone castle in Montgomery and probably survived until around 1300.
