Boots Opticians

I had an eye test at Boots Croydon Whitgift. I’m not a fan of eye tests and was quite nervous as I do worry about the health of my eyes as they’re so important. When I arrived at the store it looked dated and the staff seemed quite rushed off their feet. Perhaps they were short staffed that day. I was taken through for my pre test. The assistant (tall coloured gentleman, sorry I didn’t get his name) seemed too laid back and not focussed on the task at hand. He spent ages doing the tests and asked way too many questions which and frankly this made my anxiety a little worse as I thought there might be something wrong. So this wasted way too much time. After the pre test, I wasn’t looking forward to the actual eye test. However it was absolutely fantastic! The optometrist was so genuine and made me feel very comfortable throughout. I was able discuss all my concerns with him (I am very inquisitive!) and nothing was too much, he was very reassuring. All the tests he carried out were thorough and I was confident in his recommendations. Quite the contrast compared to the pre test experience. I would have loved to stay and choose glasses but sadly as I had already spent too much time before the actual eye test in the pre test I had to leave due to other commitments, however I’m not sure I’ll return to choose any as I may look elsewhere. So overall I would highly recommend the Optometrist I saw however I think better staff training, as well as recruiting more staff as they looked to be short (perhaps just when I was in,) would help in improving the overall experience. I would like to say, it was a pleasure - but it wasn't! Okay, appointment made eye test completed and the date given to collect my glasses. However the day of collection hours prior to the appointment, one of the staff called me to not collect today(as the glasses were not yet ready ) but to come in on Saturday.... Today I spent over 30 minutes waiting whilst a very helpful and friendly staff member rifled through dozens of awaiting glasses.... Alas, even with her tenacious spirit she could not conjure up the item, even though she could not understand why..... In the end 45 in total, she informed me to return on Sunday... No of course not... They don't open on Sundays, but Wednesday (apparently to save any disappointment of coming in Monday or Tuesday) are you for real? 🤔? Boots it's okay.... I should have followed the ads and gone to Spec Savers glasses 👓

Have been coming here for nearly 15 years, I have never had any kind of problem here, friendly and helpful staff and have always been happy with all my glasses that I have bought from this opticians, JFW

My mother Virginia Eddy was assisted by the lovely Figen with the fitting and adjustment of her glasses. She was extremely polite, very professional and very helpful in answering all of my mother's questions. My mother also found her to be very patient, very understanding and very informative regarding the prescription and care of her glasses. It was a great pleasure having her assistance and she is a great asset to Boots opticians, Whitgift centre, Croydon.

The optician was very thorough, and very professional. The sales team were significantly less so. Left unattended for over 40 minutes (yes! Forty!) before raising my voice was the only option. Will I return? Yes to collect my glasses. In the future? Doubtful.
