Sushi Gourmet (in Sainsburys)

Unlike other reviewers I've had no problems with sushi from Sushi Gourmet. The price is cheaper than in restaurants, good quality and good amount. I usually get them delivered on Deliveroo and I've gone in-store to buy them as well. Apart from not having hot meals delivered, I think the service and food has been quite good and would recommend them.

So fresh, good portion size and great quality. This is my favourite treat to get myself.

It's not worth the price... looks good in picture, but it's far away in taste... And I had loads of sushi in many places...

Spicy tuna rolls 3/5 Chicken Katsu 0/5 Spicy Tuna Rolls Yeah I get it, it's supermarket sushi, I had spicy tuna rolls which while they weren't too bad I did expect more tuna for £7. Also way to many other flavours going on which kinda masked the taste of the tuna. Not bad, not great. Chicken Katsu Oh where do I start it was grim. I ate the rice... I mistakenly presumed given the premium cost Vs Sainsbury's own brand katsu ready meal that this would be better... It was not. First thing that was disappointing was that there were no Japanese pickles, that's the best bit ?? The whole meal felt like someone in a development kitchen had been shown a picture of a Japanese curry and been told to replicate it without ever having tasted the original. The chicken cutlet was absolutely vile, I mean to the point where I threw it away and yeah I felt terrible for doing so but it was inedible. The clagy gelatinous lump of chicken was about as low grade as you can possibly get and the crispy panko coating had mostly disintegrated into a paste due to being nuked in the microwave. In hindsight I wished I had ignored the instructions and removed the chicken first and had it cold as it was cooked anyway but even then it was appalling quality. The curry sauce was terrible, literally the worst katsu curry sauce I have ever tasted, only a vague hint of what it should be. Due to the total lack of flavour the chunks of potato and carrot made it feel like a tiny amount of weird veg stew on the side. I don't get how Sainsbury's own ready meal manages to get this mostly right and yet Sushi "Gourmet" manage to be so way of the mark. It's not a hard to get this sauce right. There was just not enough of it as well. Half or even a third what you would normally get in a takeaway. The rice was fine and actually survived being in the microwave quite well. I presume this was because of the amount of condensation in the package itself, which unfortunately was to the detriment of the chicken. Given that the katsu curries were the only thing left at the end of the day and that there were a fair number of them I think it says alot. Avoid...

Some shocking reviews here but based on my experience, reviewing just the sushi, it's always been great. Could have some more variety but for the rest no complaints. Typically a good portion of fish in each sushi
