This is a great little place to visit. Although not a huge site there is plenty to see and really interesting information posted throughout along with a quite amusing but insightful audio guide (probably more aimed at kids). A lot is well preserved and the tunnels are really interesting to go down (only open at certain times due to Covid). Unfortunately the tower wasn't open but I'm sure that is fascinating to go up and see the site and beyond from up there. The gardens have plenty of space to wander around, explore the interesting structure of the gardens and admire the sight of the castle itself. It is also a really nice spot to sit and have a picnic. They are handling Covid-19 really well too. There is a booking system for times to visit and once inside the site lends itself well to social distancing easily and where it doesn't there are signs in place to instruct people where to go, etc. plus controlling access to the tunnels and tower as well. The staff were really nice and very helpful on our visit too. Overall, lovely place to visit.

Nice, quiet place. We missed turn at first time and walked all around the Castle back to the parking :) For last 15minutes we stayed there alone, sitting at the table, enjoying the views and scenery. Couple of days before the second lockdown tunnel was still open, unfortunately we couldn't go up to the tower. One more reason to come back next year.

Small car park on site, and a larger paid one down the road (we went on a bank holiday, so it was free). Footpath to get there was quite muddy on the day we went. Staff are friendly, but the main tower and the tunnel were both shut. Tunnel opened later in the day, but at one end only, so it was go down and come back. One family at a time though, which was good. Not a massive amount to see, no cafe, and you have to leave via the shop. Again, one family at a time, so if someone is in the shop, you can't leave. The QR code audioguide is good though, and the history of the place is interesting. Not so good if you have young children, as we do

Nice castle ruins, not a castle where you spend many hours exploring it, maybe 1 to 2 hours. Disabled car park on site and car park in town for everyone else, 50 pence for the whole day which is excellent.

Good grounds for the kids to run around in, great when they have events on situated within a lovely town.
