Reviews
From Waterfall Swallet (Peak District) to Swallow Falls (Betws-y-Coed), I've seen a few of these bad boys in my time. Yet one of the finest examples I've experienced is right here on my doorstep. I planned my visit to the Chelmsford Waterfall in late Autumn, so that I could enjoy not only the might and majesty of the waterfall itself, but also a golden blanket of autumn colours that made the area into which it flowed a truly magical scene. I see quite a few fellow reviewers have been awed by this attraction, and frankly I'm not remotely surprised. My only apprehension would be if a casino or similar opened nearby, which would degrade this unspoilt natural spectacle into something little better than you'd see at Niagara.
I have to admit I was a bit sceptical that this attraction would live up to its reviews, but it certainly did not disappoint and I know that I'll be back. Best visited during the week when it's less crowded. Social distancing measures in the visitor centre and gift shop were well organised and did not detract from the experience.
I was looking for things to do in Chelmsford during lockdown and stumbled upon this so set out for a walk that afternoon. It's quite staggering to have such a marvel of nature so close to the city centre.
It is certainly true that you hear it before you see it and as I went after a recent rainfall, I felt the spray too before it came into view - its crystal clear waters tumbling down and pummelling the surrounding area casting a quite ethereal rainbow.
This is certainly well worth the visit for anyone coming to Essex, or the UK for that matter.
I'm blessed to walk past this monumental expression of nature's power almost every day. For those who have seen it, it's almost as mesmerising as the one way fly-over.
The roaring sound of the magnificent crystal clear water thundering down and then calmly flowing off is definitely a must see for all. Mesmerising!!
