My wife and I went for Sunday lunch, yesterday havent got a bad thing to say about the place. Food is excellent as is the service. We were pleased it was being patronized by what seemed to be regulars and new guests a like.Well worth coming from Worcester for, thankyou!David and Ruth Coote.

We visit the Old Rectory as often as we can. The food is all home cooked and locally sourced. We highly recommend a visit. Always an excellent meal and service.

Our visit to The Old Rectory was quite surreal. Nothing on the website or in other reviews revealed that we would time warp to the Seventies. From the excessive decor with heavy (and worn) drapes, kitsch memorabilia on the walls and a selection of old school spirits by the entrance. This place is more advocaat than martini. The food was a strange feat with both superbly cooked meat and awfully cooked vegetables. We had the pate and plum chutney / prawn cocktail to start. The foundation elements were delightful but both were hidden behind excessive garnish including banana on the cocktail and kiwi fruit on the pate. With our mains (guinea fowl / venison) again the meat was delicious, perfectly cooked. However the mix of vegetables provided was bizarre ranging from cooked beetroot to Brussel sprouts - probably 10 varieties in all, each one significantly overcooked. Meanwhile the two types of potato were undercooked. I appreciate going for range, but I'd rather have a more limited broccolli, carrot and potato selection that's cooked nicely. I feel as though with the range of veg, the chef has no chance of getting each cooked correctly and is likely doing at least a bit of microwaving. Then came desert. The waiter listed out perhaps 10 different options. We went creme brulee and pie with custard. Each nice but the poor chef. Again providing so many options to race about with and not getting each as good as they could have been however pleasant. Feedback: reduce the garnishes, the range of veg and the dessert options to max 4 to improve quality. Decor also needs updating. Service was attentive and friendly which combined with the well cooked meat is what inched this review to a 3 star.

Overcooked veg and decor needs an uplift but general experience was good: service, meat quality and quantity of food
