We stayed for one night in a room that would be most charitably described as very, very tired and highly marginally comfortable. I say this as a regular traveller, both for business and pleasure. The room door had fairly obviously been forcibly opened at some point in the past (see empty screw holes above chain attachment point on the frame in the photos and the poorly filled door-knob indent in the adjacent wall in my photos). Coupled with a telephone which had been ripped out of the wall and the two large, odd-looking stains in the carpet (again, look at the photos), we wondered what may have previously transpired in the room as we settled down for the night on our hard, two-single-beds-pushed-together "double bed". The room had, in my estimation, most likely last been renovated in the early 1980s, and most likely last deep cleaned in the last 2010s. The bathroom surfaces were not overly dirty, but nothing shined and much was deeply corroded. The towel rail was detached from the wall, the ceiling over the shower / bath had bowed down and cracked alarmingly and the shower slowly but steadily dripped with the constancy of a ticking clock. The room came with breakfast included, but the eatery can currently only seat a small number due to COVID restrictions. We were allocated an 0700 breakfast, which wasn't what we'd planned for our 'relaxing weekend'. The 0700 serving commenced 20 mins late and, in keeping with the hotel, was passable at best. Expect nothing to be 'gourmet', 'foodie' or even 'Wetherspoons' standards. Whilst the food was hot, its natural home is most certainly a cheap roadside cafe rather than something trying to be a hotel restaurant. The coffee was abysmal, tasting very much like yesterday's brew was still being served. I would not recommend this hotel for anything other than economy, if they are offering very cheap rooms. I heartily warn all who would stay here to check the surrounding area for other alternatives and commend them to be willing to pay a premium to avoid it.

Appallingly operated by Brittania Hotels. It could have been wonderful but was being run on a shoestring, and a very short one at that. The menu and and food would have graced a down at heel roadside cafe. The best thing I can say about this hotel is that it is close to the village where there are several good places to eat so you needn't starve.

Fantastic. Historically located. Food great. Rooms very comfortable, visited several times each year.

Dont be fooled by the pictures on the website. I knew as soon as checking in this hotel is way past its sell by date! Decor tired and old fashioned, corridors dark and dingy. Rooms very old fashioned and you actually had a key to get in them, who does that now?? Fortunately l only booked for one night as l can honestly say its the worst hotel l have stayed in.

Lovely food. Friendly staff. Would definitely recommend paying a visit to the spindles spa aswell. Can't wait to go back.
