This is the only surgery not doing face-to-face contacts in King’s Lynn. You can never guarantee to get your own GP to talk with but get passed around from one to another of varying levels of competence. I could not tell you what my GP looks like because I’ve never met her (to the best of my knowledge). Calling to speak to any GP urgently is a gruelling telethon of 2-hour waits while you’re forced to listen to the most suicidally depressive Muzak any robot ever created. I’ll make one exception and give a shout-out to Dr Thorpe, who does give a damn (she’s the only star); also, some receptionists are actually pretty decent: otherwise, avoid this lot if you can.

The telephone system can be very frustrating. They have however employed more staff now to answer the phones so although you may be 30-40 in the que it should take around 30 minutes to get through. If you have set up an online account you can book appointments on the website or use the ‘message’ function on the website to ask for an appointment. They usually reply with 20 minutes and you get an email to notify you that a reply has been left. I have found this method much more effective than waiting on the phone. And my phone bill is certainly a lot better for it. Give it a try. I can’t say much for the other GPs but my nominated GP is always happy to fit me in to speak to me on the phone and will go out of his way to see me. I think a lot depends on the relationship you build with your doctor. If you have a long term health condition like me it really should feel like a partnership. If you are not getting along with your nominated GP for any reason just write to the practice manager and ask to be moved to a new one.

I appreciate that things have been difficult since COVID but the quality of service is unacceptable..the service cannot remain shut when 30 children are expected to go to one teacher every day..It is quite reasonable for a GP to see a patient with necessary PPE. We can not get through on the phone. I waited 1 hour and 30 mins then my phone got disconnected and I called back and I was #26 in the call queue!!! It is impossible to get an appointment..when you do get through..you may get a ring back from a doc..who knows nothing about your case hasnt spent time to read it and will prescribe you something to get off the phone. I ended up in the hospital for something my GP could have managed if i had been able to get through to them . It is not fair on hospital staff either!! No quality patient care! The service need to reopen for access to GP!!

I am so disappointed with my experience today. The GP's are good and the receptionists are helpful. The telephone system is a nightmare and the online booking system even worse. I have devoted a morning to trying to make an appointment for a flu jab for myself and husband. Still not done that because I can't get through. To make an online appointment I have to set up an account and then trail to the surgery with hard evidence that I am who I say I am! But when arriving at the surgery, we cannot go in! And we can't call ahead because at number 36 in the call queue one loses the will to go on, especially when the phone goes dead and we have to start the process all over again. No wonder people rock up to the QEH. The system the health centre is using is really letting them down. I hope they can sort it out soon.

Try booking a flu jab. I phoned & was NO: 36 in the queue 20 mins later i was NO: 31 in the queue. = 5 calls per 20 minutes = a wait of 1 to 2 hours. This practice is in the dark ages. Via the internet I can order a prescription in less than one minute, an appointment in 1 minute. Yet a flu jab 1 to 2 hours. I sent a letter in the end as its quicker than phoning. Will be interesting to see if i get a reply.
