Lovely place for a walk

Lovely first walk round the water garden. The only disappointment is that you can sit by the visitors centre and have a warm drink outside but the seats have been moved by the mill, it would have been lovely to sit there and have a well earned warm drink. There a loads of seats as you walk round, makes no sense?

Beautiful, peaceful gardens next to Fountains Abbey. A series of ponds and small lakes were created in the 18th century by daming the stream running through the valley. There are good footpaths all round, so access is easy for pushchairs etc. there are plenty of picnic benches and loads of grassy open space for kids to run around in. The valley sides are steep and wooded but there are some higher paths that can get you up to the top for some great views. There is a nice cafe (closed at the moment due to covid) and toilets near the exit.

Nearly missed this one, booked an early timed slot to visit the Abbey not knowing about the water gardens. Can't be seen from the Abbey ruins but can be reached by footpaths either side of the river that runs through the ruins so a circular route clockwise or anticlockwise is available if you choose. If you take the anticlockwise route (river to your left as you head to the gardens) look out for a steep path heading up on your right with a promise of good views and some hidden gems. Follow it all the way through and you come out with great views over the top of the gardens, in its prime with less overgrown trees etc it would have been incredible.

Absolutely amazing place to spend a whole day, or just have a couple of hours walk and visit a cafe. Visited it several times in the past, and will do again!
