Staff very friendly the service was a bit slow, took around 45 minutes for food and wasn’t too busy.... (went in around 2.30). Me and my partner had Yorkshire stew which was supposed to come with a giant Yorkshire... it must of shrunk to the size of a small aunt Bessie’s pud😳. The main problem was the stew was far to salty. We didn’t have time to complain because we were hungry and probably wouldn’t of ended up with any food at all. Apart from that the atmosphere and ambiance was good and the kids meals.

Lovely staff who were so nice and went out of their way to find me scones having sold out . I gave 4 stars for two reasons, they had ordinary whipped cream inside the scone not clotted. Second thing is there seemed to be an upstairs door (maybe kitchen) that kept banging really loud and just spoilt the ambience

Had a lovely beef and veg soup. Building was beautifully restored inside, as I remember it as the club house when I was a kid in 80s.

The decor and ambience is nothing but charming, a genuine slice of how the other half live glamorous, homely and full of promise. The workforce draped within matalans finest salmon pink dress shirt eagerly fail to aknowlege your existence as the blue roll and pink spray mist creates an almost tropical climate of disappointment. Disgruntled staff at the till reluctantly take orders casting scathing looks at their salmon clad comrades. I feel the 30 pounds bleed from my current account as my every fibre weeps with joy at this charade of sophistication, this culinary calamity, this Mansion House Tea room.

Upon arriving a Mansion House and Tea Rooms we were greeted with a pleasantly decorated interior. The dining area ceiling is obviously an original feature and was a very nice, reasonably preserved feature of the building. After queuing for twenty minutes, they only had one till open, we were greeted by a very nice young lady who was nothing but smiles and very polite. In retrospect she was probably pitying us knowing fine well how long we'd be left waiting for our food. We ordered our drinks and food I was was pleasantly surprised by the fact I'd only spent £15 on some soup, chips and two drinks. A Fentimans DL&B and Lemonade. After waiting for about fifteen minutes our drinks arrived, delivered by a pleasant but obviously very busy young lady. I poured my Fentimans and being a fat pig, took a big slurp of the lemonade I'd purchased for my six year old. Halfway through swallowing this large mouthful I almost choked. It wasn't lemonade but a mixture of lemonade and a metalic tasting something I can only imagine was line cleaner. I was almost sick and I immediately went to the counter. Three young ladies there were very very pleasant and after explaining they'd sold gallons of the stuff during the day they all tested it, one exclaimed 'Jesus that's absolutely disgusting, there's something REALLY wrong with it'. I know fine well my six year old would have just drunk it all down so I'm really pleased I pigged out and tasted it first. It wasn't that the syrup had just run out as I often drink just plane soda water or carbonated water. The girls replaced the offending drink with a J20 free of charge. We then waiting a further half an hour for our food to arrive. I'm pleased to say the vegetable was quite pleasant and the chips were passable. My friends two beefburgers looked like grey re-constituted rubber tyres, although they were well presented and the garnishes were fresh. When you're paying £11.95 for a burger it should be top quality. The only reason I didn't ask to see a manager is because the girls working in there were obviously giving it their all. A credit to themselves. The 1* rating purely reflects the management of the establishment which was a real shame. More staff and better quality ingredients and I'm sure it would be worth 3*.
