Great place to visit and a good walk round for couple of hours with kids. Very informative info boards on way round, would be nice to see more them. The 1600 cells were very interesting, just wish they were a bit more open to get into. Definitely coming back. Staff all very nice and helpful. Well organised with covid as well.

What an interesting place to visit. Our guide, Matt, was an extremely informative guide. He answered all our additional questions. He covered so much in the time I was there. He was friendly, professional, funny and knowledgeable. Definitely worth a visit.

We did the escape room experience and then wander the prison on your own. An hour in the escape room and another hour and a half wandering around. Lots of parts were closed and will be opened as new experiences later on so worth going back. Friendly staff

We booked a non-guided walk around the prison, and while I want sure what to expect it is actually interesting and gives you a great insight into what life would have been like for prisoners and staff. I think it stopped being a prison in around 2013 - so some of the rooms and building feel quite modern compared to some others from around the 1800s There's is plenty of information dotted around to fill you in on the history and some buttons to press which tell you a bit more. It was very quiet on the day we went and that added to the spookiness of the place. We took our tween aged kids and they found it interesting - but younger ones might not be so enthralled. For people interested in this type of thing £10 is great value - and hopefully they'll continie to add more interactivity to help visualise the horrors... Maybe a working treadmill or execution trapdoor Overall recommended.

I didn't actually know there was a prison here until a few months ago so thought we should have a look, expected a small little place, nothing special, oh no, this is the real deal!! Utterly fascinating to walk around, huge place, we didn't do the guided tour, but the parts I heard sounded very interesting, social distancing no problem, staff are fantastic, remember during these hard times PLEASE SUPPORT OUR LEISURE/TRAVEL INDUSTRY.
