The Black Swan on Market Square, Belper, is a good real ale pub of the more "modern" kind - a brighter interior in terms of both furniture and light floating in from outside, and general layout. A friendly place overall, and that also applies to the staff. A small selection of changing mains (1/2 of them burgers) is available. We found the cask ale selection to be a limited though, but those offered were non-standard beers by smaller breweries, which of course is commendable. A good option on a pub crawl in Belper, a tiny town blessed with an alarmingly high number of good pubs (traditional, craft & micro).
Small town centre pub with its own identity. We'll worth a visit. The tapas-style 'little plates' are charming, eclectic and tasty. Share a load with friends for a quick, satisfying meal.
The food is always great and good value, especially the tapas. Great variety too. Service is good, atmosphere great for both rainy and sunny days. They've got three ales on, would love to see them rotate them more and offer something a bit more interesting if at all feasible? For me It's the obvious choice for lunch or dinner with a few pints in Belper.
Overall very nice, would definitely recommend. The hummus was delicious but wasn't a fan of the chicken wings. Would've preferred if the food didn't come all at once for the authentic tapas vibe.
Don't be put off by the negative sounding signs dotted all over the place... The atmosphere is very friendly. The food was superb. Will go again. I'm looking forward to trying the whitebait and homemade mayo.
