A Henry 8th castle, in the shape of a Tudor Rose, built to protect Rye from invasion, sadly the sea retreated, and the castle was soon obsolete. Now high and dry, there was a time many years ago where you could look around without supervision, the castle is under control of the Sussex Wildlife Trust, and they have organised tours on certain days. There are public footpaths around the site, so it can be admired from the outside, and amazingly, if you look closely at the undulations in the fields, these were as a result of wave action .when the sea was there, about 500 years ago Respect the countryside, the fields have sheep, so keep dogs on leads

I know it's only open on the first Saturday of every month, unknown to October, this is an amazing place to go. I fully enjoyed it here

The remains of Camber Castle - an artillery fort that was built by Henry VIII. You can still see the main shape of the main castle as many of the walls are still intact and standing. The castle is set within empty fields which makes a nice change from other castles within towns and cities which have developed over the years. The vast surroundings of Camber Castle makes it feel like you could be seeing the castle as if it was all those years ago. The castle opens monthly for guided tours but you can walk around the perimeter of the castle for free.

Really cool castle ruins. Park in Rye and enjoy a quiet walk through sheep pastures and around the canal to get to the castle. It is only open part of the year, but you get a view of most of it by walking around the perimeter and looking through the grating on the doors and windows. Plenty of places to drop a blanket for a picnic lunch, or, when things open more, a couple km walk to the shops and restaurants in town.

Peaceful and pleasant walk from town. Surrounded by sheep on walk to castle , shame entry into was closed.
