Woolwich Ferry worth the trip across and as far as I know is still free, not sure which council runs it now, Good views of East end of River Thames. (You can see the Thames Flood Barrier built 1986 opened by Queen Elizabeth). Close to Greenwich home of the Cutty Sark, museums and views of the Thames (view of Tower Bridge). A must if you are in South East London.

A decrepit old pier. It's been closed off for years and has mostly fallen away. It's bordered by a path along the Thames which runs through the side of the park and further. While nice in the sunshine, at night it feels quite dangerous. A lack of lighting, people, the entrance to the foot tunnel and a lot of graffitti and various smells make it quite atmospheric, if you like to be a little scared. One of the least attractive parts of the Thames path, but interesting, nonetheless.

Good for crossing the river if you won't mind waiting 30 min in average. 1 hr wait to be expected for a single ferry service but there is always a good river view towards Canary Wharf. Improvement on online/twitter status updates needed.
