The fort sits relatively unknown built by the Portuguese and changed hands to the Dutch and later the British. It's interesting to note how the different owners made adjustments to suit themselves and dwelled there but still remains intact all these years.
Stark comparisons to castles in Cape and Elmina reveal similarity and differences ..
It's very fascinating to see a building structure over 100 years old with a lot of historic events happened there
This fort is a testament to the importance of Axim in the colonial era. My tour guide gave me a very detailed history of the fort, slavery, Axim and the Nzema people. Great view of the greenish sea from vantage points of the fort. The fort preserves documents, maps and regalia from the colonial era.
Slave and trade fort built in 1515
Although not as flamboyant as the well known forts in Ghana, I loved the History of the Place.
