I have only gone once, but they were very clean, staff and Dental students were kind and as gentle as positive. There was great supervision by the Attending Docs. The only downside is they do not have enough the state of the art radiography machines nor do they have any at the chair side. You have the go to another we took to get X-rays. Otherwise it was a good experience.

Horrible experience. Very condescending attitude. The student that did my root canal was great, that's the only reason this has any stars at all but that was about it. The other student in the dental department I Initially thought it was going to be great but soon I noticed that he made condescending comments instead of just providing service, they even sounded innocent sometimes but were indeed disrespectful. A lot of a appointments with very little progress. Highly inefficient. Finally, I had to go to a private dental office because it just wasn't worth it, the price difference is minimal but the trauma that is that place is something I don't wish anyone. It almost felt like they didn't want work with a diverse, poor population.

After putting off a lot of dental work, I began as a very anxious patient at the Columbia Dental School early in 2020,. I have found most of the students, administrators and supervising staff to be exemplary. They are knowledgeable, helpful, compassionate and meticulous. The equipment is state of the art. On a couple of my most recent visits I was offered a virtual reality headset to help combat my anxiety, absolutely loved it!! I have been over a dozen times, still have many visits ahead of me. I have a different outlook on the entire process as a result of all of my good experiences.

If I could give this place a 0 stars I would. I have had numerous appointments and none have resulted in any work being done. There always confusion and no one knows what’s going on. I keep getting the run around and being passed off from one doctor to the next with no resolve. I thought that this institution was prestigious and could actually help me after all my troubles with dentist in the past. I have dentures and 4 implants to hold my dentures in. One of the implants has gone further into my gum. What I have wanted the doctors at Columbia to do was to removed, fix and replace it, in addition to getting a set of new dentures. For the past year and a half I’ve been trying to have this issue fixed and nothing. My last visit they were trying to suggest that I do an additional 4 implants and told me I had to pay out of pocket without addressing my main concerns/issues. And trying to charge me for something my insurance already approved to pay. This has really been frustrating and now I see I have to actually find a dentist that’s willing to listen to there patients and get result and not waste their time. I wish I would have seen the reviews before thinking Columbia was the right place.

This would probably make an interesting immigrant story... now that I speak English better, and I can afford real dental care, I can look back and rate Columbia Dental School. I went to one of the teaching clinics because I was a student myself, and a new mother, and lacked enough money to take proper care of my tooth. The student performed a root canal (I have a whole other question about made up needs to give the student the opportunity to practice or pass an exam...) and it all seems ok. That night I started getting these ziiiing! pains in the treated tooth, which only got worse as days went by. I finally managed to be seen again and one of the professors, summoned, told me the student had went through the tooth and into the jaw, and now I needed an extraction. At least as that point I should have gone to a dentist but again, no English, no money... they pulled the tooth, refused to give it to me (of course, as it had the proof of the botched procedure) and then I had to go, my son on my hip, and wait for hours in the hallways on the upper West Side, to ask for a refund of the root canal, so I can save for a bridge now. It was evident nobody wanted to see me there anymore, and I would now know what to advise myself. The place prays on poor New Yorkers’ dental problems as fertile ground for patients who can’t complain. Oh, the extraction was done very well and it was free. THAT student evidently must have been more diligent. The final cost was a bridge instead of a crown, plus the molar above the bridge wearing off faster... for cleanings, maybe. But if you need a root canal and can at all find the money, don’t go there.
