Beware of fraud at National/Enterprise/Alamo. I was scammed out of $70 USD by being told I damaged a car. After returning the car in perfect condition, Luis returned with “photos from under the bumper” of a HUGE mark. He never showed me the damage in person. After the fact, I confronted the corporate office regarding the fraud and I was replied to by saying “we’re sorry it was a mistake”. The money is still not refunded.

American travelers should beware of renting a car from National / Alamo / Enterprise at the San Pedro Sula airport! All brands are operated by the same franchisee and they will do everything possible to SCAM money from you - especially for damage which already exists on the car. Specific details are below if you would care to hear them. When you rent, they will let you inspect the car with them. They do not want to annotate small things on the form. If you do get them to mark damage on the form, they will make the smallest dot or mark possible on the form with the tip of the pen. Is is a multi-part carbon copy form so pressing hard on the form is important. They typically hold the form in their hands versus using a clipboard to ensure clear marks on each copy. When returning a car today, they found damage on the lowest part of the front air dam. You literally had to get on your knees to see this. Interestingly, the damage was noted in the same location the last time the car was rented to another customer. Luiz speculated it had been repaired and I must have damaged the same exact place again. Of course, I did not damage anything. Luiz also stated that he recommends taking photos when renting. That bit of advice would be great to receive BEFORE you rent from this National / Alamo / Enterprise location and not AFTER they they are charging you for existing damage. My fiancé is fluent in Spanish. So, it was obvious that all the manager cared about was whether or not I was loud / angry when speaking with Luiz on the phone after discovering the damage was noted previously. Luiz said that I was quiet, so the manager said he must charge me for the damage. If you have no other options and you absolutely must rent from the location, take high quality photos or video of the entire car! Get on your knees to take photos of the bottom as well. Ensure all existing damage is noted prominently on the inspection form. And, beware that they are still likely to find some “new” damage when you return the car. This is my second time renting here. The first time they found a “new” scratch but acted like they were doing me a “favor” to buff it out. This time they did me another “favor” by reducing the charge for damages that were already there. But, I did not not cause any such damage and the previous rental records showed that it was there already.
