As a thank you for participating in military operations against the Turks, Eugen Savoy in 1697, as a prominent warlord, from Emperor Leopold I gained the largest Baranja property from twenty settlements including the Kopački rit area. At the beginning of the 18th century (between 1705 and 1712), Bilje built a castle that became the administrative headquarters of the huge Beljee estate (Bilje or Belje). The administration was there until 1827 when it was transferred to Kneževo. It is an early-baroque castle of square shape whose wings enclose a large inner courtyard. It surrounds the rubbish that once used to be water and to the entrance to the castle you come across a former bridge. Around the castle is a huge perivoj. Above the wooden entrance door is a little preserved coat of arms of the Savoy family. Today is a castle owned by Croatian Forests d.d. and in a bad state.
