St. Anthony

Good old church!

Small church dedicated to St. Anthony dates from the 15th century when it was located in the suburb of Split, outside the city walls. From the 17th century it was trapped inside the newly built Gripe Fortress. Since then, was a military auxiliary building (gunpowder magazine, ammunition storage, ordinary warehouse), reconstructed and expanded to full unrecognizability. That was until recently, so it can be said that she experienced her own Easter by the establishment of the Republic of Croatia at the end of the last century. Until then, religious purpose was forced to be replace the military under the rule of the Republic of Venice, the imperial and monarchical Austria, the first and second Yugoslavia, and the occupying authorities of Italy and Germany during the WW2. .................................................. Mala crkva posvećena svetom Anti potječe iz 15. st. U to vrijeme bila je smještena u splitskom predgrađu, izvan gradskih zidina. Od 17. st. je bila zarobljena unutar novoizgrađene Tvrđave Gripe. Otada, bila je vojna pomoćna zgrada (skladište puščanoga praha, spremište streljiva, obično skladište), pregrađivana, i dograđivana do potpune neprepoznatljivosti. Takva je bila donedavno, tako da se može reći da je ona doživjela vlastiti Uskrs upravo uspostavom Republike Hrvatske. Do tada je vjersku namjenu bila prisiljena zamijeniti vojnom pod vlašću Republike Venecije, carske i monarhističke Austrije, prve i druge Jugoslavije, te okupacijskim vlastima Italije i Njemačke tijekom 2. Svjetskog rata.
