Staying at Insulae is like a visit to the inner world of a person who is curious about, kind to and respectful of nature. Offering both a preview and a complement to the life of the island, its colours and scents, the space is minimalist, yet warm. Meaningful details fill you with the same sense of wonder as island views, revealing from winding roads. The subtle balance of comfort and openness is an invitation to take it slow (pomalo!) and adjust to the rhythm of the island.
Beautiful, clean and cozy apartament and wonderfull hosts. Highly recommend this place
You could get everything at one place: excellent atmosphere, nice apartment with books, pleasant hosts and also sleepy cat in his chair!
Absolutely best place to stay in Komiza!! Has everything one might need, very centrally located yet quiet.
My girlfriend and I spent a week at the Vila Insulae in Komiža during early May this year. And oh boy, what a week it was :-)
I'll try to be brief and not sound unrealistically satisfied with everything. Apologies up front!
We came across Sanja's apartment at the very last minute, contacted her and quickly and easily booked our stay.
The place is truly a gem and it's hard to find the words which would do it justice.. Sanja's apartments are located in an old renovated stone house in the centre of Komiža.
They're close to the beaches, bars and shops - a couple of minutes walking distance. The apartments are beautifully decorated - I would describe it as mix of scandinavian simplicity and mediterranean colours and details.
Take a look at the photos :-) All in all, it's an unbelievably pleasant place to spend your time in - either inside your apartment or in the small garden in front of the house. It's really quiet - great for relaxation.
As if this wasn't enough, Sanja has a cat and a dog. While the cat likes to spend time by itself, the dog called Su (Curly :-)) is always there to welcome you and put a smile on your face :-) She is really irresistible!
So, the place is great. The pets are great. What about the hosts?
We spent a nice amount of time talking to Sanja (she was there during our stay) and unfortunately just one afternoon talking to her husband Stanko. They've given us plenty of info about Komiža, Vis and what to do there.
All I can say is that they are both pretty much as pleasant people as I have met so far, anywhere. We've enjoyed talking to them about Vis and about all kinds of different things.
I am really looking forward to meeting them another time - especially if it's on Vis :-)
After we concluded that the apartment was a spectacular place to be - was it even worth going out to explore Vis?
Definitely!
Vis is an unbelievably interesting island. It has spectacular beaches (google up Stiniva or Srebrna for starters), beautiful small places, interesting countryside and so much more.
The local gastronomy is great, there's plenty places to eat really good fresh and local food - especially fish. You can visit old Yugoslavian Army bunkers and bases, go on boat cruises and adventure tours, climb, hike, ride a bike, go on kayaking trips, dive - you mention it.
Also, visiting nearby islands is great - especially Biševo with it's spectacular sea caves (google up Modra spilja on Biševo). Anyways, you can easily spend a lot of time here and never get bored. Or you can melt into the island mentality - relax, grab a beer or a glass of wine in Komiža and enjoy life and everything around you :-)
I'll stop here. If you've lost track in the text above, just remember two things. Come see and feel Vis. And stay at Vila Insulae. You won't regret either one bit :-)
Sanja and Stanko, thank you for a beautiful time and see you again as soon as possible!
