Krupa Monastery

Krupa Monastery is situated in a small valley in the canyon of river Krupa, at the bottom of southern slopes of Velebit. It was built in 1317, what makes it the eldest of the five orthodox monasteries built in Croatia. It has been burnt, demolished and looted numerous times throughout history as this is the area where different ethnicities and religions meet. It gained it's current form in 1855 and treasures valuable items, frescoes and icons. One of the highlights are gilded icons that can be seen in the church. The surrounding nature is also beautiful as the river here spreads into countless streams with small waterfalls. Combine this visit with the famous "Kudin most" downstream.

Krupa Monastery is located at the bottom of the Velebit mountain, Croatia. It is founded at the 14th century & it's, still, in function. It was devastated through the history many times but, rebuilt as well. Today, it's possible to visit it and enjoy in old library and other sacral values. The Monastery is surrounded by beautiful nature, it is next to the Krupa river well 👍🌲👍🌿

A really nice place to visit, especially out of season. There's a place nearby to have picnic also. The interior of the monastery is magnificent, the atrium looks nice and everything looks "byzantium" a bit. A nice chat with the nuns if you visit at the right time.

A great hidden gem. Make sure you visit inside. Outside is great for picnics.
