The municipality of Veliki Bukovec is located on the very edge of Varaždin County between Plitvice and Bednja and near the mouth of the Drava River. The municipality has a highly developed wood industry and production of flowers, fruits, vegetables and other agricultural products. . There are three villages: Veliki Bukovec, Kapela Podravska and Dubovica with about 1500 inhabitants. There is a primary school and a kindergarten in the municipality itself. In the village there is a beautiful castle of the Drašković family.
