Large Onofrio's Fountain

Really nice fountain that greets travellers as they enter the old town, nice cool refreshing water is a welcome addition on a hot summers day, be careful though with the water on the marble floors as it can also get quite slippery if you spill any, can also get quite crowded with all the tourists around.

Great fountain with drinking water

This ancient water supply fountain can be seen as you enter the old town through the pile gate. The huge polygonal fountain is decorated with 16 stone carved gargoyle heads called Maskerons. There is also a statue of a dog called the fountain dog at the top if you can locate it. The ancient builders of the city made sure the citizens have access to clean drinking water which to this day is quite drinkable. Try drinking from this before you head on to explore the city. A better view is possible if you climb the city walls. The view up there is quite magnificent.
