Majka Milosrđa

In front of the town walls of Buja in 1498. the Chapel of the Mother of Mercy was built. Its construction outside the walls is linked to a local legend. The figure of Our Lady appeared in the dream of the founder of this church and he decided to get her statue in Venice. He returned to Buje at night, when the city gates were closed, and spent the night with the statue outside the walls. In the morning, when trying to lift the statue, no one could lift it, so this was seen as a sign of the Mother of God that she wanted her sanctuary right there. The chapel soon became a place of pilgrimage, so a decision was made to build a larger church. The works were completed in 1587. In 1832 the shrine was visited by Emperor Francis Joseph I. Thanks to his donation, the church was again expanded and rebuilt. Inside there are artworks of inestimable value, and be sure to check out the wooden cassette ceiling and the enclosure of the church choir.

Beautiful! I was mainly struck by the statue in front of the bell tower; it is located in the center. I'm just sorry I could not get in but, on the other hand, you can see the inside from the window.
