August 5th celebrates the Catholic Feast of Our Lady of the Snows, and bears this name according to a legend dating from the 13th century, after which on the night of August 3, 352. Our Lady appeared to the then Pope Liberia and to Roman patrician John. In that apparition, she ordered them to honor her church in a place marked by snow. Snow fell on August 5 at Esquiline, one of seven Roman hills. So the people of the village of Cerje built their own chapel and named it MOTHER OF GOD SNOW. They may also believe that on that day, August 5, a long time ago, snow fell in their place, which was a miracle attributed to Our Lady Almighty. Mrs. Snow is the protector of many settlements, parishes, churches and chapels all over the world and in Croatian regions. Cerje is the most well-kept village of the willow area. There are many beautifully decorated houses and gardens, and there are flower jars on the electricity poles during the spring and summer months. The chapel is also decorated with flowers. The local holiday is celebrated by "prosperity" by bringing together their relatives and dearest friends. First he goes to Mass before the chapel and then to lunch every one of his relatives. That's where they hang out together and have fun. I also have friends in Cerje, so we always hang out each other on that day every day. It's always nice to my heart and soul when August 5th approaches.
