Prestigio Rent A Car - Dubrovnik Airport

Terrible rental experience in August 2020! I took the brand new car, perfectly corresponding to the one booked, at Dubrovnik airport. The insurance taken on BSP had a franchise of 1 500€. The rental agent convinced me to take an additional insurance enabling no franchise. Additional insurance was more than half of the total price but I agreed to take it to avoid any issue. During the trip, I did a small scratch on the bumper when getting out of a parking. When returning the car, the rental agent just lost his self-control, punching violently the car with his hand and shouting in Croatian words against us. I asked him to keep his professionalism because it was impressive and everyone around the car started to be really afraid of his behavior. The guy then came back with the contract saying that no damage can be covered without a police report. To me, it just doesn’t make any sense to go to the police when doing a small scratch yourself on your car in a parking…! The police procedure is the following: police station, official declaration, pictures of “damages”, go to the place of the “accident” for them to check if there is no public damages, alcohol test and finally, fine of 100€ because you have done a “car accident”. The rental agent perfectly known my friends had a flight and me a boat 3h later. That’s when he tried to push the second option: charging us 4 000€ for damages…! Against all odds, we’ve decided to take our chance and go to the police station in Dubro. The policeman nearly laughed in front of the car when he understood what the rental agent was trying to get from us. The police has been really helpful when we told them we were going to miss our flight. They straightly did a report saying no accident, really small scratch. When got back to the rental agency, the guy took 15minutes to call the police station, not trusting us we went there (they don’t provide you any report). I then highly recommend to rent a car to another rental agency than Prestigio Dubrovnik which is at first sight less expensive but finally the same when including all insurances and a manager trying to scam you... FYI, I’ve rented another car with Prestigio in Split on the following week (only one available) and the experience was totally different and great. Same full cover insurance, the guy confirmed me no police report was necessary for small scratches. He just took a quick look at the car when returning saying I had the full cover insurance anyway. Very friendly, gave us a free upgrade to a brand new Suzuki something or other, which was a lovely car. Took a while to sort out the paperwork on arrival but other than that, spot on.

We rented two cars in Dubrovnik and returned to Split. Excellent fast courteous and efficient service. Decent prices. The vehicle was clean. They just linger on listing every scratch before renting. There was no problem with the return.
