Fratar is the second highest peak of a small mountain range called "Grobnik Alps". It's altitude is 1353 m.a.s.l., though sometimes a higher value of 1358 meters is mentioned in literature. The name (Cro. "fratar" = Eng. "friar") is believed to be derived from the fact that vegetation ends circularly below the summit of white karst, resembling the traditional hairstyle of a friar. There are many different trails (mostly rocky and rather difficult to walk on) which go to the summit, but the most interesting one is through a canyon called Mudna dol. Anyway there is an unforgettable 360° view of Kvarner gulf, Northern Velebit, Risnjak-Snježnik massif, Slovenian Snežnik and Učka. Julian Alps and Kamniško-Savinjske Alpe can also be visible in good weather.

The peak of Fratar is 1353m above sea level, and has spectacular views on surrounding peaks of Hahlići, meadows beneath and in the distance Učka mountain, Krk island, Cres island, Kvarner Rijeka background, Grobničko polje, Gorski kotar, Velebit and Snježnik in Slovenia. On a clear day you can even see the Alps. Available 1 hour hiking from mountain hut "Hahlići"

One of the most beautiful lookouts in general. When you go from home to the pass and steep right down the pastures there is no better feeling than lying on the grass and catching the sunset overlooking the Kvarner. We took advantage of one of the last sunny and warm days of autumn 2020. The most beautiful experience ... This should be put in the curriculum of schools in Rijeka and PGC.
