Passing through the beautiful Balbi arch, we enter the picturesque old town of the magnificent Rovinj. The core of the communal or City Palace, in which the city administration is still located today, dates back to the 16th century. It used to be the Praetorian Palace whose "foundations" date from 1308. On the first floor was the great Hall of the City Council, offices and archives, and a somewhat preserved wall painting with an allegory of the city administration from 1580, which still adorns the beautiful City Hall. The interior of the building is extremely beautiful and as if time stood still evokes the spirit of the Middle Ages. Delightful. In its rich history, the building was also used as a prison, located on the ground floor of the building. The facade of the City Palace is red, additionally accentuated by a white stone portal, windows and stone slabs. The façade and atrium were restored between 1850 and 1860, when a number of coats of arms of Venetian and Rovinj families were placed, as well as the city coat of arms.
