Solta island is serene but this village in particular was eerily quiet with many abandoned houses and some ruins. Walking from Maslinica, Croatia's countryside was as quiet as ever, but, in Solta, little changes when you arrive to villages - no sound of locals, no children playing, carpet snakes on the main village road - I counted four dead and one alive! There is the occasional sound of a whirligig or a bucket swinging in the air - just like a zombie land! A local told me the village feels deserted as many residents immigrated after world war and some later got killed by the Serbs. He said that last time a child was born in Srenje Selo was seventeen years before.
