St. Luke

Beautiful and peaceful place far away from city chaos.

In Dubrava, near Split, in Poljice, the church of Sv. Luke. St. Luke's Parish Church is an interesting sacral building from a historical and architectural point of view. It has unique historical and architectural values. Church of St. Luke is located on the Gorica hill in the plateau between Mount Mosor and its southern branch of Makirina. The location is dominant in relation to the village of Dubrava, so there was a strong visual contact with the church of Sv. Clement on an adjacent hill. To the south of the church is a cemetery with a bell tower from 1928, and to the south and lower of that cemetery is a new cemetery from 1983. On the north side of the church, on a steep slope, is an old cemetery with stećak tombstones. The church is dedicated to St. Luke to the Evangelist. There are six churches dedicated to this saint in Poljice, which is probably related to the transfer of his body from Constantinople. One of the assumptions is that in the church of St. Ports in Dubrava had been laid to his final destination. The floor plan of the church is shaped like a Latin cross. A beautiful dome protrudes from its center. Church of St. Ports in the parish of Dubrava are first mentioned in the list of parishes from the 17th century. The church is described in more detail only in the 18th century in the visits of archbishops of Split. Visits reveal that the church had a baptistery in the early 18th century, and that the door had to be repaired in the middle of that century. In 1748 the church had an altar dedicated to St. Luke.

Nice little church with a nice sound of bells. Very lovingly designed around it. Very nice all-round view. Approx. A new lookout point (a tower with a mobile phone charging station and air pump and tools for bicycle repairs) has been built 50 m further down.
