The East Railway Station was once known as one of the busiest freight railway stations to which coal and wood were transported and transhipped to Zagreb factories and households. At that time, trains in the Zagreb hub were marshalled into five stations: Zagreb Borongaj, Črnomerec Cargo Station, Vrapče Cargo Station, Zagreb East Station and Zagreb West Station. The East Station lost its significance with the construction of the Ranging Station, which was officially commissioned on May 27, 1978. In early September 2017, the track connecting the East Station to the Borongaj Railway Station was dismantled.

... Although it is exclusively a freight station, like the similar to the Ranging Station in Dugave, it is quite neglected. In the southern part, towards Vukovarska Street, one can still see the remains of the former station and station, the southern detachment for the transhipment of goods (used to be cars of the Zastava brand from Kragujevac).
