Visit Sveti Martin (12/11/2020)
The rivers Mura and Drava have always been crucial for Međimurje. The population that lived in the immediate vicinity of the river is closely connected with it. Man has long watched how to cross from one side to the other, and the easiest way to do this was to find the part of the river where the depth is shallowest and the course of the river slower. In places where there are no bridges, and boating does not meet the needs of transporting larger cargo, the so-called. scaffolding. Most of them are on the river Mura, which is one of the peculiarities of the river of the same name. A river ferry is actually an unguarded vessel used to transport people or goods from one bank of a river to another. It looks like a steel rope is stretched across the river that holds the ferry so that the flow of the river would not carry it downstream. The scaffolding is steered by the helmsman, whose skill is crucial. Namely, it is not the same to manage a ferry for a lower in relation to a higher river water level. In the case of the "ship on the Mura", which is a more popular name for the ferry on the Mura, it is used to transport vehicles to the other side, cars or tractors, because a large part of the population on the left side of the Mura has land. A ferry ride for today’s generations marks a return to some bygone times and is certainly a valuable part of local history worth preserving.

This scaffolding meant a lot to the locals of this area to cross to the other bank of the river Mura because it was the shortest way to be able to cultivate their agricultural land and at the same time bring from the same wood, hay, etc. Now this ferry reminds of those times and valuable people . It becomes a tourist center where one briefly returns to the past because in addition to the scaffolding there is also the Mill on the Mura and the Mill House. My recommendation is to come and enjoy the murmur of the Mura River and return briefly to the past

River ferry - a vessel that, like a perpetuum mobile, transports people and vehicles from one river bank to another, without engines, sails or oars.

I visited this place in Žabnik with the pensioners' association. The ferry on the Mura did not work due to the high water level of the Mura River. It is a pity that no one from the tourist board presented this area along the Mura.
