Himesháza was already an important settlement in the time of King St. Stephen, as the church built according to the decree at the time was on its border, which served the inhabitants of the surrounding ten settlements to hold their services. The formation of the name of the village is related to the church. The names Hymusház and Himesegyház also refer to the colored walls of the church, as the word “house” referred to the church at that time. This church stood at the cross on the road to Szebény, which can still be found today, and was probably the victim of various attacks. The village church of the settlement, which is mainly inhabited by Hungarians, stood in the area of “Klein-Nimmesch”, at the cross at the end of today's village towards Pécsvárad. The church was built in honor of the Virgin Mary. On the birthday of Our Lady, many believers visited the temple, which was an important place of pilgrimage. Next to it stood a chapel. Only a few walls survived the Turkish occupation, but by the 20th century none of them remained. The next church was built only after Turkish rule in 1724, after German settlers came to the area of the depopulated former Hungarian village. This thatched-roof prayer house may have stood where the building that was once used as a bus garage is today, burned down 28 years later along with the parish.
