Well, the church is strange and has a lot of strangeness. The first “weird” thing was that the sizable church carried a tiny wooden tower. It was as if Atlas was not balancing the Earth but a glass ball on his shoulder. On the front of the church, a booth guarded an interesting painting with symbols of the 4 evangelists inside. There was the lion of Mark, the eagle of John, the angel of Matthew and of course the bull of Luke. Luke seems to be the winner here. His winged cattle also adorn the coat of arms of the village. The door to the church remained closed for the time being, so the artistic carvings that also referred to the 4 evangelists stood out. For me, John’s “birdie” was the winner.
To the left of the door, if we were facing it, stood a monument in which the inhabitants of the village remembered the heroes of the world burns. The monument is a real rarity, its glossy surface polished in midnight black proclaims the sacrifice of the ancestors in 3 languages: Croatian, German and Hungarian. We had a good quarter hour in Erdősmár when we saw the first place. We asked: How do we get into the church? The answer is typical of the cordial people of the area: Wait, I will speak immediately to the uncle who has the key. Also came the jovial brother, "the Bearer of the Key." Luckily there was a local “Andersen”. We got into the church. Inside his poor but clean interior, an organ without whistles immediately pierced his eyes. I asked: Why is this? The local “omniscient” has already said: A kind-hearted entrepreneur undertook to renovate the whistles. The whistles and the contractor were swallowed by a “black hole”. The “lexicon” of Erdősmárok also told about the slow merging of the local Croatians, that it is true that less than 100 people are here, but more and more people are buying houses here recently to have a shelter for their weekends.
It was built in 1882.
