The settlement was resettled in 1731, thanks to which mainly Roman Catholic people settled. The first house of worship was built in 1733 by Catholic believers and named after St. George. This house of prayer still consisted of a beaten wall and a thatched roof. Later, on the initiative and with the financial support of Archbishop Gábor Patachich of Kalocsa, a small church was completed in 1746, which was dedicated to St. Anne on July 26. A larger church was built between 1783-1787. The church built at that time is the nave of today's church. The next expansion took place between 1907-1909. The existing church was enlarged with two aisles and a sanctuary section. The plans were made by Ernő Foerk, who also designed the present form of the Kalocsa Cathedral and the Szeged Cathedral. At that time, the church was able to accommodate 3,000 people and was characterized by the following dimensions: its length was 63.5 meters, its width was 15 meters, the length of the transoms was 28.1 meters, the internal height was 13 meters, and the tower was 48 meters high. Dr. Belon Gellért abbot-parish priest in 1972-73 in the II. He developed the present form of the sanctuary in the spirit of the Vatican Council. It is interesting that during the construction of the new altar, dedicated to Dr. József Ijjas on March 18, 1973, the inhabitants of Jánoshalm took land from their gardens under the pedestal, indicating that the church is at the center of their spiritual life.
